The ILM 1980s Anti-Rolling Stone Canon Rock Album Poll

October 3, 2012 by A.S. Van Dorston

Leave it to us music geeks at I Love Music to come up with a poll that may seem to have been done many times, but with results like no one else’s. During the nominations, the criteria was to vote for favorite 1980s albums (and tracks) that “rocked.” Which doesn’t necessarily limit it to heavy and hard rock, or even albums with guitars. The results are a surprising mix of a few well known indie rock and metal albums, and a whole bunch of surprises of long-forgotten industrial, early black and extreme metal, avant rock, post-punk and indie, especially in the entries from 400-200. Yep, the album countdown started at 400, that’s how we music obsessives roll. It’s too late to participate, as the tracks have already been rolled out, and the top 80 albums are being presented today and tomorrow, but anyone is free to lurk or sign up and comment on the results as they are revealed.
