Alehorn of Power VI

July 15, 2012 by A.S. Van Dorston

ALEHORN OF POWER VI was epic as usual. Oblong Box and Borrowed Time were fun, accompanied by free Three Floyds beer! To be honest, I was a bit surprised when Mikkel Borg Bjergsø said Three Floyds was the best brewery in the world. The free offering from 8-9 was Gorch Fock, a Helles lager, possibly their most unexceptional beer ever. But hey, it was free!

But enough about beer. Bible of the Devil are always reliable for a good show. I’ve seen them about a half dozen times, and fairly recently at Ultra Lounge with Superchrist, and I’m always entertained. They’ve gotten a bit darker lately, but the Thin Lizzy-esque twin guitar anthems with a good-timey beer drinkin’ vibe still feature heavily. The Skull were okay, but played way too long, like they felt that they should have headlined. I know they’re 3/4 of doom legends Trouble, and so do they. They had little chance of upstaging the headliner, as Dawnbringer were by far the best of class. Despite how seldom they’ve played, were incredibly tight. Mesmerizing show. Next up also at Reggies, HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE with The Gates Of Slumber and Venomous Maximus on Wed!
