It looks like the misfortunes of Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe has resulted at least in one positive thing for Gojira fans. Previously Gojira were slated to open for Lamb of God and Dethklok until it was canceled due to Blythe’s incarceration in the Czech Republic. While it would be good for Gojira to expand their audience, and there’s no doubt that plenty of Lamb of God/Dethklok fans would have their faces melted by Gojira, it would suck for diehard Gojira fans who probably would only get a 30 minute set. Now it looks like the metal fairy demons have granted our wishes, and Gojira are headlining their own shows at a handful of smaller venues around the same dates. In Chicago they’re playing at Bottom Lounge, and I’m stoked! Confirmed dates are as follows:
08/09 New York, NY – Santos Party House
08/11 Toronto, ON – Heavy T.O. Festival
08/12 Montreal, QC – Heavy MTL Festival
08/13 Worcester, MA – The Palladium (Upstairs)
08/14 New York, NY – The Studio @ Webster Hall (with Car Bomb)
08/15 Pontiac, MI – The Crofoot’s Pike Room (with Car Bomb)
08/16 Chicago, IL – Bottom Lounge
08/18 Minneapolis, MN – Knotfest
08/19 Milwaukee, WI – Rave Bar
08/20 Cleveland, OH – Peabody’s Concert Club
Gojira is a progressive metal band formed in 1996 in Bayonne, France. The band was known as Godzilla until 2001. Gojira is composed of Joe Duplantier on vocals and rhythm guitar, his brother Mario Duplantier on drums, Christian Andreu on lead guitar and Jean-Michel Labadie on bass. Since its first studio album, Gojira has had no changes in lineup, and has released five studio albums, one live album, one single, and two DVDs.
Gojira, known for their environmentally-themed lyrics, “have risen from utmost obscurity during the first half of their career to widespread global recognition in the second, including regular mention amongst the genre’s leading new millennium upstarts”, according to Allmusic.
